By Inland Empire • May 14th, 2008 • Category: Other NewsRIVERSIDE, Calif. – The two newest segments of the Santa Ana River Trail, the recreational path that will eventually connect the San Bernardino Mountains to the sea, opens in Riverside Friday.
The ribbon-cutting for four miles of trail at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area and a quarter mile segment at Hole Lake, just west of Van Buren Bridge, takes place at 10 a.m. at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area, 11401 Arlington Ave.
The completion of these two segments now makes it possible to ride or walk 19 continuous miles from Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino County to the Norco city limits. This marks the first time the two counties have been joined together on a recreational trail.
The “Crest-to-Coast Trail” will be open for biking, hiking and horseback riding.
Members of the Santa Ana River Trail and Parkway Partnership, which includes officials from Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange Counties, 14 cities and the non-profit Wildlands Conservancy and Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority, will attend the ceremony. Speakers include City of Riverside Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge and Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione. The ceremony is open to the public.
“The Crest-to-Coast Trail is taking final form,” said Mayor Loveridge. “It will be a landmark resource for all residents along the Santa Ana River.”
