Upon arrival, deputies were advised that a small explosion and fumes of an unknown chemical were emitting out of a trash can located within the cafeteria. No structural damage had occurred and the trash can was immediately taken outdoors to the quad area. At the time of the incident, several staff members and students complained of sickness as they had inhaled the unknown fumes. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Bomb and Arson Team were requested to respond to the location and assist with the investigation.
After a 2 week holiday break, We-Tip flyers were distributed to the students on the campus offering a reward to anyone who may have information regarding the incident that had occurred. Several students came forward with information which assisted deputies in the identification of two male suspects. The suspects were issued citations and released to the custody of their parents.
The case was submitted to the District Attorney’s office for filing of felony charges against both suspects for violating PC 12303 (Possession of Destructive Device).
