By Inland Empire • Jan 15th, 2009 • Category: Lead StoryRedlands Police arrested a suspect Tuesday in the November armed robbery of a man who was held up at gunpoint in a shopping center parking lot.
The 21-year-old victim had been sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of Food 4 Less, 2070 W. Redlands Blvd., at about midnight Tuesday, Nov. 11. A vehicle, described as a raised black late model Chevrolet Silverado 4-door pickup with chrome rims, chrome gas cap and tinted windows, pulled up nearby. Two men got out of the vehicle and approached the victim, armed with handguns.
The robbers took the victim’s wallet and cell phone and fled in the truck, northbound on California Street.
Surveillance photos of the suspects were retrieved from a nearby business. Redlands Police issued alerts to local police departments with photos of the suspects and a description of the vehicle.
Shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, Redlands Detective Rob Williams received a call from the Rialto Police Department indicating they had stopped a vehicle at Foothill Boulevard and North Meridian Avenue in Rialto that matched the suspect vehicle description.
Detective Williams traveled to Rialto and contacted the driver, 21-year-old Jonathan Sanders, of Rialto, who matched the description of one of the men seen in the surveillance video, including the clothing he was wearing. Sanders was arrested for the robbery.
A second suspect is still outstanding. He is described only as a Hispanic male, about 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 130 pounds with a thin build.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rob Williams at (909) 798-7659 or Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681.
