On 2/26/09, at 0800 hours the owner of Sofas and More, Hung (RJ or KC) Nguyen, located at 25000 block of Madison Ave. was arrested for grand theft and fraud.  Officer Brendan Carney received a complaint that a customer gave Nguyen money to order furniture in December 2008 and a delivery date a few weeks later was set.  The customer never received his merchandise and was told by Nguyen the furniture was on back order with the company. 

It was determined upon calling the furniture company, located on the east coast, that Nguyen  had not ordered furniture from the company since July 2008.  The investigation found that at least eight other people had fallen victim to Nguyen’s fraud.  It appeared that Nguyen was intentionally taking customers money and never ordering the product.  Several civil judgments were awarded to customers against Sofas and More for taking money and not delivering the merchandise dating back several years.  The loss estimated at this time is over $30,000.00. 

Investigators served a search warrant for the business to review invoices and files to determine if there are any other victims involved in this fraud.  Nguyen admitted to taking customers money stating he had other bills to pay that took priority over ordering the merchandise.  Nguyen was transported and booked at the Southwest Detention Center and is being held on $10,000.00 bail.
