Soboba – One Dead in Shooting

By Inland Empire • Jul 13th, 2009 • Category: Lead StoryOn Sunday, July 12, 2009, at about 4:39 am, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hemet Station was dispatched to the 24000 block of Poppet Flats Road, Soboba, in reference to a 911 call advising deputies a shooting had just occurred.
Deputies arrived at the location and located a deceased male adult in the residence. Deputies received information that the suspect had fled the area in a white GMC pick-up. A radio broadcast was given to local law enforcement agencies and the suspect vehicle was located traveling on Interstate 10 in Beaumont. A short pursuit ensued and the suspect led deputies back to Soboba.
The suspect stopped his pick-up at a residence and ran into the house. Deputies were able to talk to the suspect and he exited the house and was arrested without incident. He was taken to the Southwest Detention Center and booked for murder. The suspect has been identified as Larry Arres, age 24, a resident of Soboba.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hemet Station and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Central Homicide Unit arrived and assumed the investigation.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has received the full cooperation of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians.
