Riverside, CA — On Tuesday, August 4, 2009, the City of Riverside will celebrate its annual National Night Out Against Crime.  National Night Out is a nationwide crime and drug prevention event that encourages neighborhoods and community residents to socialize together for the purpose of strengthening police/community partnerships, developing neighborhood spirit, and advertising to criminals that they are entering a tight-knit community that will not tolerate crime.  The Riverside Police Department has been participating in National Night Out since 1996.

Each area of the City of Riverside is represented by an Area Neighborhood Watch Coordinator. These coordinators will assist neighborhoods in organizing and hosting social events like block parties, ice cream socials, potlucks, sports events, neighborhood cleanups, or other events that represent solidarity and positive police/community partnerships.  Past events have included Cops-vs-Kids basketball game, National Hero celebrations, free swimming days, soccer games, and block parties.  This year’s events will include celebrations at Bobby Bonds Park and Reid Park, as well as two local grocery stores participating in the events.  Target Store is a major sponsor and contributor to these various city-wide events.

Please contact your Area Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for the location of major events being hosted at various locations in the City or for information on how to organize your own event in your own neighborhood.
