Apple Valley – Possession of an Explosive Device / Shooting At An Inhabited Dwelling

By Inland Empire • Sep 21st, 2009 • Category: FeaturesOn September 20, 2009 at approximately 1:09 a.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to a shooting in-progress call in the 2100 block of Cheyenne Avenue in Apple Valley. Neighboring residents heard multiple gunshots and believed someone was down in the street.
Upon arrival,deputies located Glenn Nottle lying in the back alley and another male subject with a gun. Deputies took both subjects into custody without incident.
Through investigation, deputies discovered Glenn Nottle had been involved in a domestic altercation with his wife during a birthday party for their daughter. During the fight, Nottle ran to the bedroom and grabbed a .45 cal semi-auto handgun and fired one round through the hallway ceiling. Subjects fled the residence and Nottle ran out into the backyard and fired additional rounds into the dirt. Nottle was overtaken by a male subject who wrestled the gun away from Nottle and awaited the deputies arrival.
Nottle was found to be extremely intoxicated. Deputies recovered the weapon used in the crime. During the investigation, Nottle was found to have an IED (homemade pipe bomb) inside his residence and the residence was evacuated. Personnel from the Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Division responded and rendered the IED safe.
The Apple Valley Fire Department was also called to the scene. Nottle, a convicted felon, also had in his possession numerous illegal weapons including several firearms and ammunition. A Cane sword, multiple throwing stars and double-edged knives were also confiscated from his residence.
No one was injured as a result of the gunfire. Nottle was arrested and placed into a Sheriff’s patrol unit, where he kicked out the back window damaging the unit. Nottle was contained without further incident and transported to West Valley Detention Center for booking for PC 246, PC 273.5, PC12303, PC12020, PC594, his bail is set at $50,000.00.
