By Inland Empire • Nov 4th, 2009 • Category: Inland EmpireOn Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009, at approximately 6:47 a.m., Deputies William Hogan, Cody Korkotsakis and Floyd Stone responded to a report of a grenade in the back of a building. The reporting party, an FBI employee, was reporting to work when she noticed a grenade with a pin still in the device placed in the grass nearby the backdoor. She called 911 and made sure there wasn’t anyone in the building.
Deputies arrived on scene, made sure the building was evacuated and set up a safe perimeter. Detective Steve Szydloski of Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail arrived on scene and determined that the grenade was real, but had been drilled out, preventing it from being explosive.
Deputies conducted a thorough search of the area for other possible devices, but none were found. FBI officials had a bomb team responding to the location to take over the investigation at their building. Evidence will be collected by FBI and processed by their teams in hopes of finding suspect information.
The building was deemed safe for employees to return to work by approximately 8:00 a.m. and the building was reopened for business.
